Pornography Addiction

Pornography is one of, if not the, nations leading business generating billions of dollars annually. Through the years we as a society have become more and more desensitized towards images of the body. Commercials on television today would have been considered the pornography of yesterday. Where will the line be drawn?

Even in the console games you can see images of women and girls wearing next to nothing. These images are they way they are because the author of the video games want to attract people to the game. This attraction is what is damaging our youth of today towards sexuality and relationships. It is not only video games but music videos, movies, TV shows and commercials. When they envision the girls wearing almost nothing, they also envision their friends in that manner. They grow up seeing the opposite sex as a prize or a trophy.

The sad truth is the women in the pornography business are victims. I am sure some will tell you that they do it voluntarily and they see nothing wrong with it. You hear the same thing from drug abusers and pedophiles too. They are victims because when others view them, they are not viewing a person with feelings. They are viewing an object. An object that is only there for their own deviant sexual desires.

As the viewer of pornography, they too become desensitized to the images and after telling themselves over and over that there is nothing wrong with pornography, they begin to believe it themselves. Another sad truth is that when a person views pornography, they keep those images in their head. This affects they way they are with their significant other or their wife. They will see themselves with the image and not the person they are with. Now they have just involved another victim. This is a chain reaction offense.

There are those who refuse to call pornography an addiction. But those who have gone through the addiction know that it is every bit as powerful of a stimulant to the senses as drugs or alcohol and the end result is the same. You not only hurt yourself but also those around you.

We at My Savior God realize that we can not stop the billion dollar a year industry with a web page of links but we do pray that we can help someone who feels that they need help. There is hope and that hope is Jesus Christ. The power of porn can not withstand the power of Faith. With fervent prayer and an absolute faith that Jesus is there with you to help you, you can overcome this addiction. You will know your growth when others start reacting better to you because you will eventually start to treat them as human beings and not just objects for your own personal desires.

    Staying Free of Pornography

    From: www.pornfree.org

    1. Avoid stores that sell porn, especially those that display it behind the cash register so you can see it as you check out.

    2. Don't surf the internet alone.

    3. Avoid sexually explicit movies (usually R rated and some PG rated).

    4. Avoid looking at people in a sexual manner. If you can't look at a person without having sexual thoughts, then don't look at all!

    5. If married, avoid being separated from your spouse, especially in the evening.

    6. Avoid being alone.

    7. Pre-plan alternate, non-pornographic activities you will do when you feel the urge to view porn. Examples:

-Ask God for help in prayer
-Pray for others struggling with porn addiction
    -Call a friend
    -Exercise
    -Recite Bible verses audibly
    -Sing praise songs to God
    8. Install internet filters on your computer and give a friend the password; use a text only browser (like Lynx) if search engine pictures are tempting you.

    9. When tempted, remind yourself the truth about the lies behind the temptations.

    10. Take actions to clean out your home from any physical or spiritual stumbling blocks related to porn.

    11. Take action to build your spiritual walls of resistance through the
online courses provided by the Porn Free Website.
